	Ir Metuna Calm City “IR METUNA” –calm city is a holistic road-calming project based on the concept VISION ZERO –road deaths.The aim of the project is to provide solutions to road carnage inside the towns, large neighborhoods and rural areas, each according to its needs.The project (duration at least one year) is carried out in cooperation with the local authorities, NRSA (national road safety authority) the traffic police and Metuna, supported by local organizations.The first objective of the project is to reduce speed which if not the only factor in a collision is the one which determines the result.The project will deal with short and long-term problems.During the initial period the emphasis will be on reducing speed by electronic enforcement (cameras), which will be moved from one problematic road to another at regular intervals. The objective being not to punish the driver but to deter him or her. On a local level the message soon gets around. The next stage is to improve the infrastructure to reduce speed by introducing more roundabouts speed bumps, signs and even paint.The project is designed to include all citizens from children to the elderly, pedestrians and passengers, drivers old and new including, taxis, trucks and busses .For this to be effective educational and informational activities including media support and events will be incorporated into the project so that everyone will be involved. Children from kindergarten up will be taught how to cope with their own environment use seat belts wear bike helmets etc. The “Drive to Live’ program will give new young drivers the necessary know how to deal with hazards.Taxi drivers will be entered into a competition to see who are the safest and most polite and other events and happenings will be included during the year. These elements together will go towards raising the public consciousness about road safety and its implications and teach the community to be responsible for its own well-being.
